Stop Trying To Hit Me And Hit Me

from Two Thirds Of Our Lives [LP] by The Last Domino

/

about

I take looks both inward and outward in this song in regards to my penchant for overthinking, and others' penchant for sucking once they make it big. You may notice that I rarely add a third chorus to a song unless I do something completely different with it. Get in, say what you need to say, and gtfo! But don't forget to wow 'em in the third act!

PHUN PHACT: The title is an obvious Matrix reference, but the opening synth part/main riff also takes inspiration from the film's score; specifically the scene in which the gang plugs into the matrix to rescue Morpheus. Also, "What are you waiting for? The right shade of green?" is an homage to Incubus's song "A Certain Shade Of Green", with the delivery of the first line mirroring Brandon Boyd's. And going even FURTHER down the rabbit hole, "What are you waiting for" is also an empathetic nod to Gwen Stefani's track of the same name, in which she decides to stop second-guessing herself, and just DO THE DAMB THING. OH! And the line about beating around bushes and dislodging them? Zelda reference. Boom.

lyrics

LYRICS
---------
Quit fuckin’ around; put your money where your gob is, boy
Quit beating around bushes, and dislodge them, boy
You may already have put your best foot behind you, boy
So why not just dash through the caution signs, my boy?

What are you waiting for?
The right shade of green?

What new excuse will you give me?
“It’s not the perfect delivery”?
Stop trying to hit me and hit me
“Will legacy long outlive me?”
“Am I just a facsimile?”
Stop trying to hit me and hit me

Quit fuckin’ around; put your money in your airwaves, boys
Quit jerkin’ around in a circle of generic voices
I know you must have some trace of uniqueness, boyos
So why do you slap us with redundant redundancy?

What are you waiting for?
The right stack of green?

What new excuse will you give me?
“The game changes when you’re not indie”?
Stop trying to hit me and hit me
Is this your all? Are you shitting me?!
What happened to your ability?
Stop trying to hit me and hit me
